Super Smash Bros. 4 Review

The popular game series is back in Super Smash Bros. 4Super Smash Bros. is a fighting game series where the goal is to weaken enemies and them launch them out of the arena. The games feature the ability to play as characters from other video games- such as Mario, Link, Pikachu, and Kirby- as well as locations and items from the other games. The game is the first in the series to be on the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS.  It includes new characters, new stages, and new features!

Like all games in this series, it features unique and easy to learn gameplay. The objective is simple- try to make your opponents fly off the arena and off the screen to earn points. You can play in different modes- either with a timer to see who can earn the most points in a set amount of time, or with lives, to see who can survive the longest. You can use items that can give you an advantage in the game. Some may help you a lot, while some may only give you a small boost, or not help at all. It can be played either casually with your friends or online against other players from around the world.

One major feature of the game are the many playable characters the game has. They are all from different video game series. Most of the characters come from Nintendo video games, like Mario and Luigi, Link, Zelda, Kirby, and the Villager, but some are from other games, like Sonic, Pac-Man, and Ryu. This game has many more fighters than the other three games in the Smash Bros. series, and has an option to download more characters not included in the game’s release.  They all have different moves and abilities which the player can customize to fit their specific style of playing the game. Some characters can be used by beginners to the game, but others take more work to master.

Unlike the other games in the series, this one does not include an adventure mode, which allowed the game to be played with only one player and had a storyline. Because of this, Smash Bros. 4 is not a good game for someone who wants to play by themselves. The online play is not very good either, and has problems with the leaderboards and matching players to others with a similar skill level. Some of the characters are more powerful than others, and have an unfair advantage against characters with other abilities. The game also left out some modes from previous games in the Super Smash Bros. series.

Overall, Super Smash Bros 4 is an entertaining fighting game with interesting gameplay and a good multiplayer game, but with no single player mode and the problems with online play, it isn’t as great of a choice for people who want to play competitively than other Smash Bros. games. I would give the game an 8 out of 10.
